NGC 2392: The Eskimo Nebula

It is appropriate that this particular nebula is seen high in the sky during the (cold) early evening hours of winter (northern hemisphere). At a distance of around 3,000 light years away this bubble gas appears very bright in our telescope. With your eyes you can see the central star and surrounding nebulosity easily. More difficult to see is the "fur" of the hat that this gentleman wears. Clicking on the top image shows the highest resolution. The bottom picture is an older image (taken with an SCT).
